Tackling Judaism’s 3 Main Objections that Yeshua is the Messiah

In Judaism, Christianity, Islam and every other religion, the majority of adherents are born into the religion. Ancient books, echoing chants and bearded men give some sort of credibility to claims of religion to its adherents. When Jesus said 

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it." 

He was referring to the fact that very, very few people seek the Truth from the Eternal Source of Truth.

There is no way I or anyone else can convince you of this Eternal Truth. I chose to follow Jesus as an atheist of 17 years old many, years ago ;), but it was not because of what people or books said, not even what the Book said. Many today believe in Jesus because “the Bible says so”. You can not believe the Bible is even God’s Inspired Word just because others tell you it is or even relying on what the Bible says of itself. I call this “second-hand faith”. This kind of faith doesn’t work and that is the kind of faith that leads to religious, political, ethnic and tribal conflict and wars.

So how do you know Truth?

“Anyone who wants to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.”

Jesus couldn’t have said it any better. The key is to have the desire to know God, His Truth and be prepared to both ask and receive an answer – an answer only you can hear. Before you hear you have to listen and before that you have to ask.

Having said, here are three objections Jewish people face who are considering whether Yeshua is the Massiach of Israel or not. But what I write below is just food for thought. The basis of faith is far different.

1) The Messiah isn’t supposed to be God

Throughout the Torah we have examples of God appearing as Man to His people – Hagar, Abraham, Jacob and Moses. This pattern repeats itself elsewhere in the Tanakh (which consists of the Torah, Ketubim-Writings and Nebaim-Prophets make up the what the Christians call the ‘Old Testament’). Think of Joshua bowing to the “Captain of the host of YHVH” in Hebrew (Sar-Tzeba Yahweh) and being commanded by the Man to take his shoes off for the ground was holy – the same thing happening with Moses and the manifestation of Elohim as a burning bush!

That God is a compound unity is evident from these Scriptures. 

David declares in Psalm 110, “YHVH said to my Adonai [Lord] sit at My Right until I make Your enemies a footstool for Thy feet”. How is it that Yahweh speaks to the Adonai of David? Who could have been David's lord if he was the King?!

Isaiah 9:6 speaking of the Messiah calls Him “El Gibor” or Mighty God and “Abi-Aad” or Everlasting Father. 

Religious leaders deliberately twist this entire passage (Isa 9:6) and transform it into meaningless poetry when they are forced to examine it because they can not explain Isaiah's prophetic outburst within the confines of Jewish thought.

2) The Meshiakh is supposed to come only once!

The New Testament speaks about the second coming of Jesus. Many Jews thinks this is completely outside the scope of Jewish thinking. They say that Jesus’ disciples invented this doctrine because everyone, including themselves, understood that when the Messiah came there would be the reestablished Kingdom of Israel, with complete deliverance from their enemies and world peace. When Jesus died, His disciples were shocked and reinvented the narrative to include a second coming where Jesus would do all that as a way to explain that He is the Messiah.

You see, Jewish mainstream theology does not teach the truth about the Messianic prophecies. They purposely cover up the ancient texts revealing that the Messiah had to DIE before bringing to life this Kingdom. The main passage that describes in mind boggling detail the crucifixion of Christ is Isaiah 53. Psalm 22 is considered a Messianic Psalm and Psalm 16 speaks about the Resurrection. Zechariah 14 speaks about the Israelites looking upon the One who they Perceived. Even the first words of the Bible in Genesis 1:1 speaks about the Son of God crucified on a cross… stay tuned for that!

3) The Messiah was not supposed to abolish the Eternal Torah!

“Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith Yahweh But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith Yahweh, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Jer 30:31-34

Jesus came to fulfill the Law by being the Sacrifice (that every sacrifice of the Law alluded to) and the Temple (the very presence of God on earth). His Sacrifice cleansed eternally the believer from sin and made them justified. His prophetic name “Immanuel” meant God was with us – there, in a Person, Living, Breathing, Eating just as we. In other words He Himself was the embodiment of the Torah! He was the Living Torah!
